- There are hundreds excuses you can make,
- But a thousands steps forward you can take.
Sometimes we tend to dwell to much into the past negative experiences that happened in our life.We can’t change the past but we can choose to move forward and change our future for better.
Yes, we have a choice to say: “ Enough Excuses ”.
- Like a puppet on a string
- The past controlled my being.
- Years given away .
- To should and could have been,
- The past already been;
- The present I chose to live in.
- No more victim I decide to be,
- From the past I choose to be free,
- Accepting accountability
- For what the future holds for me
Accepting accountability in taking better care of our health involves a willingness or a obligation we have to ourselves and to our loved ones , to face what holds us back and then to take responsibility for our actions in working towards improving our health.
Write down what action you can take right now in helping yourself to move forward in reaching your health goals. List the strengths that you already have that will help you follow through with your action plan . On the other hand what are the challenges that you may expect and how you plan to deal with them successfully.
Keeping committed in taking care of your health it involves changing attitude or behavior in the way that you deal with the set backs, which of course will happen often especially at first. When faced with setbacks, don’t just quit or resolve in dealing with it in the same way as before. You know well how often your efforts in taking charge of your health were sabotages from old habits and behaviors.
When you stumble instead of staying down, get up, use that stumbling stone as a stepping stone instead. Learn from the experience and continue to build on it. This will help you to be consistent in doing what is good for your health and eventually you will see the wanted results. As you do this in regular basis you will build mental fortitude. But you have to remember that being consistent does not mean perfection. Continue reading “Change the mindset”
Another way to stay committed to our health is by saying enough to broken promises. Many times we promise ourselves and the loved ones that we will put ourselves first and we will take care of our health. Sadly more often then not we end up breaking that promise and we find ourselves in the same place time after time. But just take a moment to think about it 🤔 When it comes to keeping promises that we make to our loved ones we do our best to live up to those promises since we don’t want to let them down . It should not be any different with the promises that we make to ourselves in taking care of our health. Why do we find it easier to break these promises or push them aside by thinking that it requires too much time and efforts on our part?
I feel blessed that I have a lot of people in my life that love me and I love them back. I find great joy showing that love by taking care of them in regular basis or sadly when sickness strike and more time and attention is required. Since nurturing others brings me great joy I had to learn to balance how to take care of others needs without neglecting my needs. When we find ourselves in the position of a caretaker we have the tendency to put them first and forget ourselves. We tend to neglect taking care of our health to the best of our abilities. Every day , but especially in the moments that others depend on us , we have to make sure that we give our needs priority.
Let me briefly illustrate. We hear these instructions often when we fly: “If an emergency occurs during the flight and you need to use the oxygen mask please put the mask on yourself first before you help your children or somebody else “. That sounds like selfish thing to do but actually it is the wise and unselfish thing to do since we can’t help anybody else if we can’t help ourselves. Especially if you travel with children they look up to us to understand and follow directions in order for us to help ourselves and them. When the flight attendants speak, those instructions are not just mere suggestions they are directions that can save our lives .They expecting us to follow directions just so, in order for us to help ourselves at least, so they don’t have to worry to come and save us in emergency situation when time is of essence.
This example illustrates the importance and the need for us to don’t neglect taking care of our health. We have to make time to take care for ourselves first even while we are busy taking care of others. Taking care of our health it should not be viewed as a to do chore left in the bottom of our to do list, rather it should be viewed as a necessity that can’t be ignored. As we stay committed in taking care of ourselves we will be in better position to help others who need our help. Commitment to our health involves more then just a desire to lose certain amount of weight it involves changing our old mindset in what it means in taking best care of our health.
- Dieting, just for a while
Does not add up to a healthy lifestyle.
- Health requires a commitment firm
To follow through for the long-term.
- You can’t stay in denial
As your weight start to pile;
- You can’t quit or retire
When things get grim or dire.
- Endurance and patience hold the key
To the change you want to see.
- When you stumble or feel unsure,
Tell yourself, “I shall endure!”
Commitment to your health means to remind yourself of the consequences of not taking the right action now in caring for your health .How that will affect you physically and emotionally in the next month , next year, next decade. How it will affect your loved ones.Don’t ignore also the fact that not taking care of your health effects also all the other areas of our life.
- It’s vital to appreciate and take care of you,
Because it affects everything that you do,
- Say “I can do this “ and strength you will find,
You have a choice, so make up your mind,
- That when you’re feeling down or blue,
And quitting is the easy thing to do,
- You’ll grasp determination you need
To forge ahead and to succeed
The recipe for success in feeding the mind right is made of four key ingredients. The first one is commitment.
In our every day life we have different commitments that we have to live up to. We take seriously those commitments since it affects our lives and the people that we love and care about. When it comes in taking better care of our health we tend to overlook the fact that it takes commitment for the long run in order for us to keep taking care of our health to the best of our abilities .
For most of us keeping a committed to our health in the long run presents many challenges. We may do good for awhile but when life happens so to speak, that commitment to our health moves at the bottom of our to do list.
Is that true in your case right now? If so, why not start right now to renew your commitment and fight for your health. This time make up your mind to continue to keep that commitment even when challenges arises. What can help you be committed to your health when the tough gets going so to speak? I know what helped me. I started by making a list of reasons why I needed to make it a priority taking care of my health.
Have you ever thought of making a list or write in details what those reasons are in your case?
- Health problems you no longer can ignore?
- Self-esteem that’s gone out the door?
- The confidence you had before?
- Kids who love you and you adore?
- A broken spirit revived once more?
- Opportunities you want to explore?
Writing down valid reasons is the first step in taking your commitment of your health seriously. Write down in details those valid reasons and keep bringing them to mind or read them when tough gets going and you get tempted to view commitment to your health as a chore instead a priority as it should be.
When it comes in taking care of your health no one can do that for you. Don’t choose to stay in a wagon waiting for someone else to pull you. You have to be like a locomotive that keeps moving forward despite the heavy load. I like to talk more about this analogy and I like to share how I interpreted especially when it comes to weight loss.
I fell off the wagon – that is the expression that people use often when they have setbacks or quit in their weight loss efforts. Fell off the wagon? How viewing ourselves being in the wagon can inspire confidence in our abilities?
When it comes to weight loss, many people chose to jump on the wagon of one hyped up diet after another. The truth is that for most people once the initial excitement of the new diet wears off, they are left stuck in the same place or even worse , going further backward.
But the question also arises, why we keep jumping in similar wagons time after time? Simply put: The destination is alluring. All the hyped up diets offer something that we want. Each time we jump on those type of “wagons” so to speak, we tend to think that – this is it ,this time I found the right “wagon” to go along for the ride. We like the destination and think that we will not mind the journey in the wagon as long as we reach that alluring destination. How many time you have chosen to start that journey before you realized that this is not how you wanted to go about in reaching that destination ?
We have to realize that each time we choose to jump in any type of “weight loss wagon” we can’t expect to go much further. After all in a sense we are choosing to be in a wagon again, dependent on someone’s else directions on how to go about reaching our desired destination. Something has to change in order for the end result to be different.
Make a commitment to yourself that you will be a locomotive and take charge of your health. Take practial steps to help yourself. If you need to learn more about food and nutrition, learn about it. If you need to move more, move. If you need to better your cooking skills, do something. Learn to use kitchen tools, experience with different foods and cooking methods. Don’t be intimidated just keep practicing.
You have a choice to don’t be in a wagon but to choose to be a locomotive instead. It does not matter how much weight you have to pull, eventually it will become lighter as you unload along the way . Don’t fear the hills ahead, just keep on chugging along and soon enough you will be able to enjoy the views that come along with the climb.
Stay committed and keep on chugging 🚂🚂🚂
